Perspective

I want to extend my congratulations to the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) for offering forty years of professional services to the education community in Hong Kong. I was fortunate to join the organization (named Hong Kong Examinations Authority, HKEA, in 1977) in the early years and had participated in the development of subject examinations in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), the Hong Kong Higher Level Examination (HKHLE) and the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE). Over all these years, although we encountered problems and challenges from time to time, we managed to build up our expertise and consolidate our procedures through the gradual accumulation of valuable working experience. Apart from discharging our statutory duties, we have also successfully delivered examination services in other arenas.

With the devotion and hard work of colleagues, committee members and the devout support from the education community, we are able to deliver our duties with professionalism and build up our professional image in the international community in education assessment. I find my work rewarding because apart from resolving complicated issues, we need to get in touch with various stakeholders. In all the projects undertaken, we were able to meet and work with stakeholders in the education sector as well as professionals with different kinds of background. I value the learning experience with different stakeholders because it offered an opportunity for us to articulate our own working experience and to extend our expertise to meet the needs of other groups of people. Before my retirement, I witnessed the last HKCEE in 2011, the last HKHLE in 1992 and the last HKALE in 2013. Most important of all, I also had the opportunity to work for the preparation and administration of the first Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination in 2012. It was a great learning experience for me in my career.

In 2002, HKEA was renamed Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority. Since then, HKEAA has expanded its portfolio and has offered assessment services in a lot of other areas, promoting assessment for learning through different channels. I wish HKEAA would continue to prosper in the future years and that it will obtain further success in its future endeavors. May we all enjoy good luck and good health in the years to come.
